Listing my favorite book covers is something I wanted to share since I started Fiction Jungle, and in all honesty I don’t think 10 is enough. I’m pretty sure that after I publish this post I’ll remember another great I left out; this phenomenon surely has a name.
I really can’t pinpoint exactly what makes a good cover, the only thing I can say for a fact is that some are more memorable than others. There’s a recurrent aspect, however, I’m constantly attracted to, and that is illustrated covers, not all of them have the same type of illustration, there are many resources you can you use for a cover: typography, color scheme, visual composition, and even the intention behind it. And sometimes, ultimately, certain covers are just personally eye-catching.
